Heres some Moosic History: Did you know that brodcaster Dick Whitaker hailed from Moosic? FORMER LOCAL RADIO AND TV ANNOUNCER DIES RICHARD E. ``DICK WHITAKER, OF MOOSIC STREET, MOOSIC, DIED MONDAY IN WILKES-BARRE GENERAL HOSPITAL. Tuesday, December 14, 1993 Page: Former local radio and TV announcer dies Richard E. ``Dick Whitaker, of Moosic Street, Moosic, died Monday in Wilkes-Barre General HospitalBorn in Moosic, he was the son of Florence Chapman Whitaker, of Moosic, and the late Albin R. Whitaker. He was a graduate of Moosic High School and attended college in North Dakota. He lived in Utah and Florida for a number of years before moving back to Moosic in November 1993. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a public affairs officer with the U.S. Government Department of Defense, Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers during the Agnes Flood cleanup. He was a former radio announcer with WBAX and had the Speak-up program with the station. He was also a track announcer for the Pocono International Raceway, Long Pond, and a sports announcer for the former WDAU-TV, now WYOU-TV, Channel 22. He was a member of the Moosic United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by son, Christopher; sister, Mildred Trudy Monk. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are sons, Al, Decatur, Ala.; Rick, Forks, Wash.; twin son and daughter, Matthew and Cassie Whitaker, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brothers, Willard Buck, Lake Wales, Fla.; David, Angelica, N.Y.; sisters, Gladys Exeter, Moosic; Ellen Wilson, with whom he resided; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Moosic United Methodist Church, Main Street, Moosic, with the Rev. Helen M. Henderson, pastor, officiating. Cremation will be in Wilkes-Barre. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 830 Cedar Ave., Scranton 18505. Funeral arrangements are by the Thomas P.
