Heres something NO ONE is talking about regarding Mike Brown and Eric Garner: Maybe having an incontestable MONOPOLY on the provision of law and justice is an awful idea. If there was only one legal car manufacturer in the United States people would rightly expect that the quality of cars would go down and the price would go up. Why is the production of law enforcement different? Why would a monopoly on law have the opposite result as a monopoly on the provision of any other service? If a private company continually killed unarmed men and ignored rape reports do you think people would still willingly pay for that companies service? Of course not. But because the department operating costs of the public police are provided by compulsory taxation they are almost TOTALLY DIVORCED FROM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION which means there is very little economic pressure for these organization to serve the needs of their customers. For more information on how a non-monopoly police force might work check out: The Machinery of Freedom by David Friedman (available free online) and The Problem of Political Authority by Michael Huemer (available on amazon) This lecture also provides an insight into the economics and failings of a monopoly police force: https://youtube/watch?v=v87FZLU-_fw
