Heres the latest on Elizabeth: Due in no small part to all of the prayers and happy thoughts, Elizabeth came out of the bronchoscopy with no issues. She was even clamoring for a Bronco Burger combo (no tomato or onions but onion rings instead of fries because she is compelled to personalize every single order ever) and a mocha frappucino (no whipped cream, see above) by Monday evening. I cannot begin to tell you how tremendously different this experience was from the previous bronchoscopy. Thank you, everyone, for your support. At the risk of missing or slighting someone, we also want to call out special thanks to Mary Kay for helping Elizabeths father be at the hospital on Monday. Another special thank you goes out to friends Doug, Tammie, Josh, and Paul for pet wrangling assistance so I could maximize the time I spent with Elizabeth throughout this experience. Ann Marie also deserves props for professional spiritual intervention. Back to the update. After the bronch, the doctor said it would take a few days to grow out most of the cultures. This way we could see what we were up against. This morning the early reports came back negative. There are a few longer-running tests but there isnt much expectation these will turn anything up. Basically, there is no explanation for her decreased capacity and bronchial swelling outside of this being a natural progression of the disease. This is not the worst news, but it isnt the best news either. The only real option now is treating the symptoms and hoping her disease decides to change course yet again. Its not like it hasnt done this before. Elizabeth will remain in the hospital for the next few days. Theyre going to go after the swelling by upping her steroid dosage. We dont know what level just yet. Theyre also going to closely monitor her blood sugar because this will undoubtedly wreck havoc there. Shell be in until they get the steroids and insulin schedule normalized. Chances are shell be reunited with Morton, her new pillow, and the rest of the crew at home sometime this weekend.
