Here’s a recap from our OR/WA Rep Chuck H. and his bike packing tour around the Waldo Lake area of OR: “A couple of us just finished an overnighter up and around Waldo Lake, Little Cultus Lake and Charlton Lake area. The weather, scenery and camping couldnt have been more perfect. Day 1: Start at Shadow Bay parking lot and ride the Waldo Lake Trail (Tr.3590 - clockwise) to the North Waldo campground. There you pick up NF-514 and follow that north to NF-600. This road will take you east to Little Cultus Lake which is where we camped for the night. This route is 25 miles of the most amazing scenery. Day 2: The return to Shadow Bay @ Waldo Lake. Head back west on NF-600 2 miles to the Lemish Lake Trailhead. Follow this south past Lemish Lake. This trail becomes the Metolius-Wendigo trail and ultimately the Charlton Lake Trail. You will take this all the way to Charlton Lake where you then get on Trail 3593 to North Waldo campground. At this point you can head south on the Waldo Lake Trail (TR.3590) back to Shadow Bay parking lot. (about 20miles nearly 100% singletrack!) NOTES: Water is plentiful at all the campgrounds. Little Cultus Lake campground is a great place to camp. If you like to ride farther than 20-25miles a day you can extend the ride to Big Cultus Lake and explore that area. Plan on a fall ride to avoid mosquitos (we encountered none.)”
