Here’s my Throwback Thursday contribution, of Liberty Quartet at the National Quartet Convention in 2009. Since all but my cousin Royce Mitchell (bass singer/original member/group founder) have “turned over” in this Liberty Quartet lineup from five years ago, I believe it qualifies! And since National Quartet Convention 2014 starts in Pigeon Forge in just a few days, the time is right in that regard, too! Doran Ritchey, who was pianist for Liberty Quartet at that time, wrote this energizing, call-to-stand song—both words and lyrics. This was actually performed during the Song of a Lifetime showcase, and I am sure Doran is off-camera in this video setting the pace on the piano. I love the “loping energy” that I feel in this song. Doran is currently the worship pastor at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho--where I plan to be, Lord willing, in three weekends for Liberty Quartet’s Northwest Gospelfest. From left to right in this video are Daniel K Gilbert (lead), Royce Mitchell (bass), Keith Waggoner (tenor/energizer), and Jordan Cragun (baritone). Of nearly equal interest for me is watching the incredible songwriter Dianne Wilkinson in the background near the left of the video (wearing black, and mostly behind Dan Gilbert), spicing up the clapping section with her own enthusiasm and rhythm section. The more Diannes and Dorans we have in this world, the better off we will be! This video was taken by Diana Brantley (from Georgia), another one of my Facebook friends whom I have not yet met—but hope to meet someday on this side of heaven. But if not, I’ll see you over there, Diana! And thanks for capturing this wonderful moment that I was not able to experience in person!
