Here’s why I don’t use social media platforms, such as - TopicsExpress

Here’s why I don’t use social media platforms, such as “Hootsuite” and the like: I’m obsessed with authenticity, they’re obsessed with getting it over with. But in creating a successful brand—and yes, my dears, you are a brand, so get over your queasiness and accept it, Hippie—authenticity is everything. Authenticity is the reason people are going to care enough to listen to you and, eventually, purchase-in one form or another—your product, whether that product is your resume, a play you’re acting in, a movie you produced, a book you wrote, or a website you launched. Authenticity and passion are not just good marketing buzz-words, they’re life. So, for me at least—and you know, US News & World Report did say I was a “social media expert,”—I’ll never use Hootsuite, because then you end up pre-programming a week of insipid tweets, ending on Friday with TGIF tweets and hashtags, and while you’re feeling smug about being “done” with your social media for the week, some pathetic psycho shoots up a school of children, and in the midst of this very public carnage and heartbreak, your (very public) Twitter feed is full of “OMG great day to be alive & hit #happyhour #TGIF!” Oy. It takes more time to fix mistakes, than to simply trust yourself and get it right. You know everything you need to succeed on social media: you’re human, you know what you like and what you don’t like, so present accordingly. Give people more of what you like and the right people—your ideal community—will recognize your truth and connect with you. The numbers will come, as you focus on the engagement. Trust yourself to succeed not sabotage and you will succeed.
