Hes been coming to the meetings, held in a small fraternal gathering hall, for several months now, George is a tall gangly fellow with a long craggily face holding deep set, usually sad looking brown eyes and his skin is weather darkened. He has said little before but he started talking about a family situation that was disturbing him, one of those occurrences that, previously, would surely be made better if you drank something. As he told his story, those big sad eyes looked around the table instead of at the floor, as was usual, and you could see strength building where fear or weakness had been as he said he didnt take a drink, and, amazingly enough, he didnt want to drink. His eyes were meeting ours as he told how he knew the meeting was here and he knew we would understand. This hulking rough looking small town/country fellow glanced around the room and met each of the other 8 men and 1woman in the eyes as he said that he loved us, and a big smile came across his wide mouth as he repeated it I love everyone of you to the woman and 4 black and 4 white men in the room! I had not see him look up when speaking or smile before. The bars are frequented by people that will tell you it doesnt work but in these little, and large, rooms across the world is where one can see that it works, it really does!
