Hey Everybody, I tried to control the trolls on the PT post. Some of their comments bothered me so here are my thoughts on it. 1) Just because we nurses and other healthcare workers do not want a vaccine and want to preserve our right to refuse, does not mean that we deserve to be called names and it does not mean that we mistrust our profession or that we are making ourselves look stupid. If anything, we are being failed by our profession. We are taught that our patients have the right to refuse any and all aspects of treatment without judgement but we as nurses do not have the same right? I am sorry but I am being failed... but I still want to be a nurse because that I have hope and faith that the system will get better. 2) Were you all taught in school that those who were currently ill or otherwise immunocompromised should not receive a vaccine? And havent we read story after story about vaccines with attenuated viruses CAN and DO shed for 21 or so days after getting it? We are being told we are spreading misinformation but I am pretty sure that I read these two facts in both vaccine inserts and in my nursing text books. I also feel the need to add that the definition of attenuated is WEAKENED not DEAD. Two different things. 3) Also, I just read a story where a lab found old tubes of anthrax. They were supposed to be inactivated but they most definitely were not. So they thought it was dead but it was live. Say a vaccine is made with an attenuated virus and given to millions of people. Then you find out that the virus was actually still alive. Then what? Vaccine makers can make mistakes just like anyone else and this proves that it can happen.
