Hey FB... Just thought Id let all of the 200+ people that hit like, commented I was in their prayers, sent encouraging words my current status/praise report!! ONE WEEK AGO TODAY... at this time I was coming out of anesthesia after being under for approximately 8 hrs. I had a mastectomy (breast removal) and reconstruction with a TRAM flap (creating a new boob with stomach muscle) because on September 18th my life was turned upside down and I was told I had breast cancer. Prior to having this surgery and having MULTIPLE doctors appointments and what seemed like millions of options thrown my way I was told based on my decisions my recovery/healing would be 4 - 6 wks for JUST a mastectomy, but because I was doing reconstruction it would be 6 - 8 wks. I was told I would be in the hospital for at least 6 days because I was being cut from hip to hip. I came off the morphine the next day and was out of the bed moving around, I left the hospital on day #4 - could have left day #3. I am up, moving around, going up and down stairs and bathing independently. Ive not been on my take home pain meds in over 24hrs and tomorrow I get to have at least one of my three tubes removed. I have also been AWAKE with no naps since 7 this morning!!! My mama truly built me Ford Tough. Going into this I had more than one person tell me that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldier... my response: I kinda wish he wouldnt have selected me for this one, however as much as Im being rebuilt he is definitely planning to keep me around a long time - I was also told on more than one occasion that I would be a testimony for someone, I hope this part is definitely true. I had a really AWESOME support team. My A1 - Tonisha joined me at every appointment, and came for hours daily to just be there for me as she has done for EVERY surgery the last 3 years. My cousin/sister LaVida turned straight nurse/military mode on the nurses and took better care of me in the hospital than they did. My brothers Sean & Jonathan showed each day I was in the hospital and have been there for me as my bodyguards my entire life. My babies spent their days with their white mama Katie as she maintained a normal life for them when their mama wasnt capable. LASTLY my MAMA Patricia has not left my side unless strongly encouraged, since we got the call. I couldnt have asked for a better caretaker and watching her makes me realize even more why I am the way I am. She is truly a vision of strength, she could have easily chosen to be at work making sure she was taking care of her home instead shes been here taking care of mine. I would be doing a disservice if I didnt mention my co-workers at Reidsville Middle School that has kept my familys belly full, and provided me with company daily. Then there are 12 AMAZING girls that all came to see me yesterday. These beautiful ladies represent so much joy and between them and their parents support I will tell ANYONE I have the BEST cheerleading squad in the state!! At this point I have my ride or die crew that keeps their distance but makes sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that Im taken care of Donna (David), Mariatu, Anissa, Debra, Versail, Tedrina, Charles & Darris Thank you guys so much with all of the other OVERWHELMING things happening being the voices to keep me strong and smiling has been very important! On that note, Im going to play Farmville, CSI, and do some wordsearch puzzles since Im still VERY wide awake.
