Hey Guys Im a trumpet player primarily but Im staring to get into audio engineering and Im looking to buy my first high quality microphone (it will be going through an Apogee One and into protools). In reality, its going to be used to make audition tapes for myself and my fellow college friends (and some of my students) and to record for my own projects. I want to start versatile so I have been looking at the AKG C414 XLS. It seems to be one of the most versatile microphones out there and seems to sound great on everything! I know its a studio standard and is popular to use on just about anything but is there any other microphone I should have my eyes on and consider before I drop the cash?
