Hey~Hey~Hey, Its Haise! My boy had a fantastic basketball game yesterday! He shot and scored a basket! Woof-woof! Mom had to work and missed it which meant I had to stay home too but, it sounds like he did wonderful without having us there. A couple players from the other team tripped and fell while trying to make it to the other end of the court and my boy saw this and stopped to help one of the players up. What a good boy he is! A big heart and good helper just like me! Of course, in Owens eyes, as in the world of Autism, he thought this meant he has now formed a friendship. He doesnt naturally understand the difference between being a good person and friendly and having friends. Mom attended a seminar given by a 50 year old man who was diagnosed with Autism at age 2. He was able to provide those present with so many inside tips and explanations as to why some do the behaviors they do. It made many light bulbs go off and was able to prepare some for their childrens futures. One point he specifically made was, teach your children that just because someone says Hi it doesnt mean they are your friend. I am a constant friend in my boys world that he knows he can depend on. I show him love and support unconditionally as a true friend should and this will hopefully reinforce the difference with him.
