Hey guys, Im not a professional but Im surprised a lot of you dont program or design currently. For those of you who havent developed games before, heres some good starting places. Programming: - C++ is the universal language of the app game industry (Ive heard), probably because you can control your memory easier than C#. Windows desktop games can also run these. I read once that Halfbrick used it to code FruitNinja. - C# is similar to C++ but less complicated, you can use it do develop Windows Store/Phone games using the latest MonoGame framework (extension to C# which includes MonoGame and XNA which is now outdated). You can use it to code on Android and iOS but you will need Xamarin or Monogame (Im struggling to get it working on my computer). - Javas quite similar to C# (and its rival) and popular for coding Android applications. You can code with some Eclipse builds and Android Studio using this language. Dont know a great deal else about it though. - Objective C is used for iOS apps, if you want a hardcore game for iPhone you can use OpenGL for XCode (which conveniently is only available to computers with OS X). Design: - Think like a human, think of how you will convey messages to your audience - For UX (user experience ideas), you can study design thinking at Stanford Universitys dSchool short course on their website. I study this at uni but Ive never applied it to game design (its typically for non-trivial systems and programs). Go for it my children! (Just kidding, Im no pro, just trying to help yo guys out :) )
