Hey guys, so I just got back home. I was able to contain the situation of the person who had been run over and the patient is alive and in stable condition being attended at a medical facility. Big up to the police officers from Kasarani Station who actually gave us their vehicle to take the patient to a hospital in Kiambu, stayed there with us and dropped us back home. We just have to appreciate these gentlemen from our police force! Also not forgetting Frank the boda boda guy who followed the whole issue from apprehending the the vehicle that run over the victim to transporting me to where the victim had been kept to giving the little that he had to cater for hospital bills. This man sacrificed his sleep and comfort of his home to Hustle at the midnight hour to make a little something to make ends meet only for him to give it out to fellow Kenyan in need. Touching! However I still find a number of issues disturbing; 1) The victim was first taken to a nearby hospital before I got to see him. When I got to the hospital I found him literally lying outside in the cold on the ground having received no attention because apparently the hospital had no X-Ray facility although medical personell were present. Whatever happened to basic first aid and putting someone on a stretcher inside the hospital and checking that there is no immediate life threat? I mean, a car just ran over him... TWICE!!! 2)After the 3 kind officers helped us take them to another hospital we arrived there only to be asked to fetch stretchers ourselves. Never mind that they dont explain where they are. After doing this and taking the casualty inside we are asked to go back outside and pay 50 shillings for a card. I try to tell them that that is not an issue but this guy could potentially die and thus request that they at least stabilise his condition as I go to pay. They decline saying they cant do anything until I pay up. Showing them the money doesnt make a difference. Again they dont explain where I should pay. 3)After paying I come back and still nothing has been done. I suggest that they at least check him to make sure that the is no immediate life threat. He was losing consciousness and and had received zero checks. I get lectured by the doctors not to instruct them since they are the pros. Someone please explain to me how you dont check a person who has been run over by a vehicle? 4) Victim says that he really needs to pee. We ask for a bed pan. We are told there are none and shows us directions to the gents. Like they expected this guy to walk and pee. I ask for a bucket and Im only given after I offer to clean the bucket myself after. Whos up for donating some bedpans to these fellas? Anyway we were able to take care of the situation and the person who ran him over assumed responsibility and stayed with the victim in hospital. There is a lot we need to discuss in our next meeting. In the meantime let me get some sleep. Goodnight peeps, or is it good morning... ... *yawn*...
