Hey parentals! Lets talk car seat safety. Theres a couple basic things I never would have known without FB so Im passing along the info. Dont feel condemnation or shame if youve been unknowingly doing something wrong! • Strap your kiddo in high and tight. You should only be able to fit one finger between body and the straps up by the collarbone. Do the pinch test. If you can pinch the slack its not tight enough. Why do we care about them being tight? Because in a wreck baby could slip right out. The chest clip needs to be level with the armpits/across the nipples. Not too high and not too low. Why? Because if its too high it can puncture the trachea and if its too low it can puncture internal organs in the abdomen. The chest clip is no joke. In Europe car seats arent even made with them because of how easy they are to misuse and how dangerous they can be to baby when misused. So, strap right! • Like the article I recently posted says, (now that cold weather has arrived) do not strap kiddo in with puffy clothes or coat or even things that are advertised as safe to be clipped in with baby. Baby should only have up to 2 or 3 THIN layers of clothes on between body and straps. Put the warmth on OVER the straps after baby has been clipped in. I tuck a fleece blanket around Titus and put a beanie on him. Why? Same reason we want the straps to be tight on babys body in the first place. In the event of a wreck, the padding under the straps will disappear because of the g-force and then baby is left vulnerable to slipping out. Dont think you can tighten those straps down enough over top of something puffy. You cant. Ok, thats my safety PSA. I write it cause I love you all! Knowledge is power. ❤
