Hi. Amazing day today -my Gsd Lady has always been a bit water shy. Today Charlie -been with us only eight weeks or so -Charlie was usual self at the river. He is straight in after stick or ball. No fear! Phoebe would always wait for him to come out of water but would only go in so far and no further. I certainly wasnt gonna force her to swim. Suddenly I noticed she was watching Charlie very intently and -went straight in with him almost as if well if its ok for him its ok for me! it was wonderful and I used praise plus plus and phoebe was in and out of the river again and again after the gun dog dummy. . Shows me two things. 1 .gentle persuasion and positive reinforcement is what works. Not just throwing her into the river to make her swim as someone suggested. I would never do that. And 2 -dogs learn from other dogs. Good behaviour as well as bad. Now I have two confirmed Gsd swimmers :-P and two damp dogs goin home in the jeep. I wouldnt want it any other way. Love understanding positive reward training -
