Hi Another year gone and I can’t recall one that has gone by - TopicsExpress

Hi Another year gone and I can’t recall one that has gone by so fast. I have just had routine blood tests which showed nothing wrong other than a slightly raised cholesterol level so things could be worse. I was prescribed statins four years ago but after a few problems with them, my GP and I agreed that I should simply resort to a more sensible diet. However, if the new pill gives me side-effects too, I shall just have to eat more stringently than before. Wouldn’t you know that all the bland stuff is allowed every day, and all the good stuff is in the column called ‘Avoid’ … Last Christmas, my sister gave me a mobile phone so I can no longer claim to belong to that élite who manage without. I have found it quite useful, chiefly to read email when I’ve been away from the house, but I rarely use it to make phone calls. When it last rang, sometime in September I think, I spent ages trying to swipe the glass screen to receive the call but the caller gave up and rang off before I managed it. I wonder who that was?! Life without cats has seemed strange at times, but I have decided that it’s unlikely that I will have any more to live with me. So far, I can remember only the traumas of the last few years and I can’t face the prospect of going through all that again, not least because I will be really ancient by the time any kittens I have now reach their final years? I have continued to make improvements to the house, chiefly by designing and commissioning bespoke furniture, especially for the study. I am delighted with the look of the place and I am determined to enjoy it for as long as I can, if not longer. I celebrated my tenth anniversary in Bunthorne House on 4th May by performing Schubert’s Winterreise with Tim Barratt. My music room is between the library and the conservatory and was a surprisingly effective chamber music venue. The music was followed by pleasant food and drink and much conversation, mostly about the food, I think. I haven’t decided what I shall do to mark my twentieth anniversary but the complete G&S canon in one day is one idea, and Tristan und Isolde is another – it having no chorus to speak of …?! Suggestions on a postcard, please! I wish you a joyous Christmas and an interesting and satisfying New Year.
