Hi, Everybody. I just thought Id tell you a bit about my day. At 8:50 this morning, I had driven my son and me from Fayetteville to Chapel Hill and was in the merge lane that you have to use to get onto the Durham-Chapel Hill Freeway, when you move on Durham-Chapel Hill Freeman from Fordham Blvd. I attempted to merge into the lane of traffic in front of a dump truck from a concrete company. I misjudged the merging space and the truck hit the rear of my Prius on the passenger side, then my car slid crossways in front of the truck and he pushed my car about 20 to 30 feet down the road, then stopped. We were right on the edge of the pavement. Had he been driving faster, my son would have been hurt or worse. If his brakes hadnt worked as well as they did, we would have gone over the embankment. As it was, his truck had a slightly bent front bumper and the entire right side of my car will have to be replaced. Its a 2007 Prius. Never been in an accident before. A quick guesstimate from the repair folks is that it will cost me between $4,000 and $5,000. So I guess it was my lucky day. Dealing with the car rental stuff has been a slight nightmare because they gave me a 16 passenger van that is so tall I have to find something to hold onto to pull myself into the van and sort of slide out. Plus I thought Id get something in Durham then drive to Fayetteville and find something cheaper. It isnt working that way. They dont want me to drive my car because my back right wheel is bent and so may be the axle. So if anybody knows of someone dying to lend a car to a 65 year old lady who drives back and forth from Fayetteville to Durham/Chapel Hill 5 days a week, please tell them you can solve their problem please. And Summer, thank that voice that alerted you to potential problems for me.
