Hi Everyone! I just got around to dedicating myself to the Simchas Torah services. Ive been consumed with other responsibilities: traveling to and fro the wooden backyard hut and making parties, making fish and zaft and kuchinyu, making conversation, making inedible food, making extra pounds, making everyone listen to me complain about that, making excuses for staying by the cozy heater and having another slice from someone elses plate. This is the kind of rebbetzin I am. Not any kind. But Im here, at last. Ready to make this Simchas Torah event happen. Based on the number of people that RSVPd for my service, it looks like I will have to stand somewhere near the Chabad shul and lure a few people in to make sure we have ten. Or just nine, at least nine, for goodness sake. Couldnt we have nine, such a fine number? But even though our services participation looks very bleak, I think of it this way: most of us rebels participate in synagogue services by NOT going. Its our way of expressing our position on all this: we stay home on principal. It is a concerted, sacrificial effort to rebel. So I realize everyone who is not present at my service is in essence participating by being absent, which means we have a massively large congregation. Amazing! Inspiring! Plus, there will be so many leftovers I wont have to cook for a month. So much more inspiring! BUT, you can also still rebel against rebellion. You can come instead of going to Chabad. Heres the link to RSVPing. eventbrite/e/simchas-torah-services-at-my-house-tickets-13540137917 Let me know if you have any questions/issues with that. Weather Friday should be splendipherous. You can just come in a nice dress shirt or dress with a sweater, high heels, look pretty. Well do it outside. It will be easier to lure in the seventh Chabad person that way. Im linking the machzor for the service. Eli, Ari and Yoelish helped. Im still editing it. Ill print it tomorrow when its fixed, polished and done. You can take a look through it. What I tried to do was compose a program based on the structure of a traditional service but I only put in a handful of songs from the prayers. I looked for songs that are mostly nostalgic, songs that we all love to sing, songs that we miss singing in a group. I made no effort to change any text or lyrics to fit anyones values. I dont feel like it is necessary to make a point with everything we do. All I am trying to do is sing beautiful songs with a group of people who love these songs. It doesnt matter what you believe. This isnt about belief or religion. I put the links to all the songs in the machzer, so if you dont know them, you can still learn them! PS: If you happen to have the lyrics to YomTov Ehrlichs Ani Mamin or Lipas Diet and you can send it to me, Id be ever so thankful.
