Hi Im Brooke and my 12 year old son Antonio has CP. Im reading all these posts and Im lost with all of the terminology. Our doctors have never explained what means what....Ive always just explained the CP diagnosis the way Ill explain to all of you. Antonio suffered from IVH grades 3&4 and all 4 ventricles were affected. This occurred on the 2nd day of life. He was full term...but on the small side for weight and length. He had issues immediately, but our concerns were not addressed and he deteriorated quickly. The specialty drs who saved his life predicted a grim future....the repeatedly suggested a DNR. We refused and dug in for a long fight. Fast forward 12 years to today. He is such an awesome guy. Great humor, personality to die for, leads a happy life. He walks...but drags his right foot...has full use of his hands and fingers, he learns much slower than his peers...but hes learning. He is absolutely obsessed with WWE ....John Cena in particular. Weve never dealt with seizures...no meds...no long term illness....hes basically a healthy boy. Weve done years of PT, OT, SLP...had too many pairs of orthotics. I used to wonder why this happened to MY child...I did all I could to ensure a healthy pregnancy.... But as the years roll by...I find comfort in being able to share our experience with others and try to instill hope and positive vibes for others in a similar situation.
