Hi In case you missed it, ex Hurricane Gonzalo is paying a visit today, and Im sure may of you have had your windows rattled by strong winds and heavy rain overnight. The main rain band has cleared the east coast of the UK, with the exception of north eastern Scotland where it will linger for a while yet. The wind is now swinging round to a north westerly, strengthening for northern areas and feeding in some very hefty showers with some thunder mixed in. It will be a chilly day with the north westerly flow, with wintry showers over the peaks of the Scottish mountain and hill tops and temperatures much lower than weve become used to. The wind is the main issue today, as coastal areas of Scotland, northern England, north Wales, N Ireland and eastern Ireland will see gusts of up to 70mph - the Northern Isles could top that too, The low pressure creating these winds is going to clear out into the North Sea later today and take the winds with it, but the east coast wont see the back of the worst until after dark. The charts show the gust strength at midday and 6pm today, so you can see it is clearing through quite quickly and calmer weather will arrive overnight pretty much everywhere. Itll be a chilly one too under clearing skies, and tomorrow will start bright for the east and south of the UK. The north of the UK will see another low pressure rattling through later tomorrow from the west, while further south it will be a bright, but fresh day. Ian
