Hi! Thanks for the group. Im fairly new in cast Iron cooking, so I have a couple of questions: 1. The reason of using cast iron in my house is to move away from harmful materials like non-stick and aluminum. But then by using CI I have to use oil to season them. Im trying to eliminate some oils (vegetable, canola, soy, crisco, sunflower). Was considering coconut oil to season, but then read that I should only use refined oil, and I only use unrefined. Then someone mentioned organic flax oil... and Jeff Rogers mentioned it is not a good idea. I dont want to use olive oil because is a low heat oil. After reading a lot about what to use, I decided to go with bacon fat... so is bacon fat enough/ok/good? 2. Tomato sauce/paste. Heard a rumor that you shouldnt do that on CI. Cant really find a straight answer. Can or cant I cook sauces on CI? also, is there anything I shouldnt cook on CI? Thank you to anyone that can answer my newbie questions :)
