Hi all. Im new in town (along with 4 of my friends) and have several friends that had been living in Bali for years that convinced us to move to Ubud so here we are! I love this place and look forward to connecting with the people here; locals and expats. We are learning Bahasar Indonesia and plan to participate in local ceremonies and embed ourselves in local culture, food and lots of green shakes! Our local friends here are our first line resource but when they are stumped, I post questions here. Hope you are all cool with that in light that it can also help someone else that might be in our situation too. That being said, where do expats here find news on things to do (outside of this FB group)? Things like Events, Socials and Nightlife. I came to Ubud to realign my mind, body and spirit. My friends each came as couples which leaves me singled out so Ill have to fend for myself at times. But wait, you dont have to play the worlds smallest violin for me yet. We participated at Yoga Barns Ecstatic Dance this past Sunday and thought it was neat. Such beatuiful souls expressing themselves through energy and movement til the beats slowed down to a point where my interpretive dance movements are still not up to par. Good energy all around. I returned myself last night for their Friday night dance and had a great time. I do not plan to do that each week however and did not find it to be a venue that makes it easy to chat with people since you are not allowed to talk there. Doesnt help that I am a little shy however, Ill just have to step beyond comfort zones to get over it. My hips did shake last night so that counts in my book and no, I was not having a seizure if youve seen me on the dance floor last night. On a side note, DJ pumped some good beats too and I got scolded for whipping out my phone to Shazam it. but, but...I just wanted to grab this track. NoooOope, gestured the dancing participant whom quietly expressed with his subtle facial muscles, Oh no you didnt, all while whirling his open chinese fan towards his snapping neck. How dare he. Ill get that playlist somehow....metaphorically shaking my fist in the air! Ecstatic dancing aside, what kinds of cardio workouts are here in terms of Martial Arts? Yoga will be part of our daily routine (thinking Radiantly Alive since they are closer to us and half the cost of Yoga Barn) however some of us also want to firm up and lose body fat and hitting the gym with weights is not my personal style. Learning and participating in a Martial Art gets me to focus on a task and tricks my body into not thinking I am actually working out despite dripping sweat and catching my breath. Quite a bit of writing here. Sorry. If you do not have any resources to contribute but think we can be friends, Im open to meeting up over food, tea or green shakes. Me: A native New Yorker, I am a laptop entrepreneur whom figured out how to have fun and give back through the creation of active and passive income (morally) to live what I consider an untethered lifestyle, chasing life bucket items and eating my way through countries. I had been interviewed for popular podcosts on this topic. I am interested in hearing your stories. How you came to Bali, your passions and your life mission and how you are getting to your goals. If I can help you in any way, I can make myself available in an attempt to make new friends. Terima kasih!
