Hi everyone! As many of you probably dont know who I am, I wanted to tell you about myself. My name is Brittany Ruggles and I am this years Volunteer Chair for Relay for Life! I am so excited about being on the committee and being part of such an amazing event! This will be my first year at the event and on the committee. I am looking forward to this experience and meeting so many new people! I lost my Nana to Lung Cancer a couple years ago while I was in my second year of Nursing at Lakehead Univeristy. She was very close to me and my family that when she became ill she moved in with us and I become her primary care provider. Unfortunately she passed away shortly after being diagnosed 5 months prior. Ever since having lost a loved one to cancer, Ive always wanted to volunteer with a Cancer organization as I feel it hits home to me and I can relate to many individuals/families who have been through or are going through having a loved one fight their battle with cancer. I started my journey with the Canadian Cancer Society in September when I became a volunteer. I volunteered in the CCS office as a receptionist and also at events. I was offered the opportunity to become the Volunteer Chair for Relay for Life and felt honoured! Ive heard so many great things about Relay, the volunteers, the survivors and the caregivers that I couldnt wait to be a part of! I look forward to meeting you all at Relay this June!
