Hi everyone, its time to announce one last deadline. Mine. I was considering saying this on stage but I couldnt think of the words. Some of you will read this. Most of you might be too lazy to. In 8th grade, I practiced for MATHCOUNTS in a near empty classroom with Kevin Kang. I was one of those kids nobody really talked to. However, I entered Mu Alpha Theta young, animated, and ambitious, because Grant Ho left big shoes to fill. If anyone still remembers. The people I met inspired me. (Many of you have the same stories). They were compassionate; they were compelling. They were Eli Ross, Rodrigo Paniza, Peter Li, Bradley Snider, and many more. They were big names back then. If anyone still remembers. Then came Nationals. Dallas. The best week of my life. I wrote 7 whole notes on Facebook documenting each day. Theyre still up, a lot people read them, a lot of people copied the idea. Its strange to know only a few people still remember that from now. The thing that made it special in particular was a person. Her name was Hansol Kang, she was the 2011 FAMAT Student President, and I hugged her every time I went up on stage because she emitted rainbows and sunshine. I told myself that one day I would be up on stage like her and do what she did. I guess it sort of worked out. She gave me a lot, but I cant give back to her right now, so Ill share something with you all instead. Keep the memories, not the trophies. Your awards in MAO wont help you for college. I didnt list any. Its your passion in MAO that will. I used to be obsessed with results. I used to memorize them. But in the end they will be forgotten. Your experiences and your friends will carry on. I am not saying dont care about tests. What is MAO without them? But for those of you who strive to get your name projected over the stage, I will tell you what I told a group of freshman three years ago: Its not about what you get. Its about what you did to get it. Awards are success for the moment, dedication is success for life. I could never stand those freshman, but they have never let me down, and they will take over Cypress Bay as I walk out the door. There might be some stuff I am forgetting, more I would want to say, but oh well. Its time for a new generation. Ive clung too much to the past. To those of you who experienced your first bus ride to the Double Tree, your first trip to City Walk, and your first award ceremony, welcome to Mu Alpha Theta! I hope you will all come again. But to those of you who remembered your first bus ride, first trip City Walk, first award ceremony, and are now seeing your last, to my fellow seniors, Good Luck, and Good Bye. I am sure you will all do great things. - Albert Ho FAMAT Student President 2013-2014 FAMAT Student Vice-President 2012-2013 FLSAM Co-President 2012-2014 Cypress Bay President 2012-2014 Mathlete 2007-2014
