Highlights of this year’s Armed Forces Day Celebrations, at Weymouth, are sure to include a major seafront military parade with over 2,000 proud marching veterans, five marching bands and 80 historic military vehicles proceeded by an open air church service at the British Cenotaph on Weymouth Seafront. The armed forces celebrations will get off to a great start with the beach assault and bridge building demonstration at noon on Saturday 23 June. Highlights of the Weymouth and Portland festival include: Saturday 23 June Historic Military Vehicle Display static Display (Pavilion Forecourt 10am to 1pm and Castletown, Portland 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm) Veterans Rendezvous (10am to noon) Beach Assault and Bridge Building ( noon) Ex – Service Association awareness & fund raising stalls / units together with welfare and information units i.e. SSAFA / Veterans Agency Advise Bureau etc (all day on Weymouth Esplanade) Hurricane Flypast (time TBC) AJ Big Band Dance in the Pavilion Ocean Room Sunday 24 June Open Air Church Service, Parade and Vehicle Convoy (11am) Band Performances (from 1pm) Historic Military Vehicle Static Display (from 1pm) Ex – Service Association awareness & fund raising stalls / units together with welfare and information units i.e. SSAFA / Veterans Agency Advise Bureau etc (all day on Weymouth Esplanade) Photographic Display of Parade (from 3.30pm) AJ Big Band Dance – Pavilion Ocean Room (7.30 pm – Tickets £12 per ticket) For further information on this event visit visitweymouth.co.uk or telephone 01305 785747.
