Historical Background of SAN SEBASTIAN LEARNING SCHOOL, INC. San Sebastian Learning School, Inc. was borne out of the conviction and perspective to build a healthy, conducive and growing environment where young children can develop into good Christians, effective role models in the family, responsible and productive members of the community as well as active participants to the roles of youth in nation building. This persistent and overwhelming desire made way to visualizing and materializing its vision where a great deal of time and effort is a requisite in the process. The igniting year of 2002 reckoned the realization of the humble dream. Construction of few classrooms were then started to be done catering services to preschoolers and primary pupils respectively. With the influx of advanced education the school has promised to all Compostelanhons in general, 30 young children believed in the school’s thrusts and eventually are the first recipient of the assuring, friendly and sincere service, the institution dedicatedly offered. It is also worthwhile from a handful of service oriented, talented and competent licensed teachers who have shared their expertise in the craft. The quest for excellence continued and this saga prevailed until its succeeding year. In S.Y. 2003-2004, a complete elementary was fully operated. The school’s slogan, “Molding the Youths of today become Leaders of tomorrow”, embodied the noble quest to make quality education within the reach of the Filipino school children. In this laid commitment, year after year, the administration sought opportunities to comply and pass all requirements mandated by the Department of Education (DepEd) Region VII upon application. With the innumerable tasks in gearing towards the completion of all necessary mandates, it was undoubtedly challenging and competitive in manner. It is henceforth obvious that SSLSI does not solely adhere to the pedagogical theory of our traditional educational program. In 2005, a risky decision to extend quality service to aspiring highschoolers shed light to the benevolent founder of the school. June 2005 was the birth of the SECONDARY EDUCATION. It was on this year that the fulfillment of the living legacy was achieved. The school presupposed and strongly believed that openness to change and initiative to improve are the touchstones of effectiveness and quality. Consequently, these have caused to numerous academic achievements, praises from the residents of Cogon and honest recognition by the parents. With God’s divine providence, the school has expanded in size and has nurtured a group of youths little by little, step by step, year after year. Acknowledging the grace from God, San Sebastian Learning School, Inc. is issued permit to operate both Elementary and Secondary Education by the DepEd yearly. At present, the school upholds its great desire and commitment to instill values and proper training among the youth so as to make them become responsible and self-disciplined countrymen, thus, the prudent choices made in their lives will enable them to acquire knowledge and skills to improve themselves and later on they become catalysts of change in their families, communities and country in responding to the demand of today’s developing country like the Philippines. On August 08, 2008, the Secondary Curriculum of San Sebastian Learning School, Inc. was recognized and is tagged with DepEd’s Govt. recognition No. 39 s. 2008; and subsequently, on August 27, 2008, the Pre-Elementary and Elementary Curricula were also tagged with DepEd’s Govt. recognition No. 38 s 2008. On March 8, 2013, as per SEC – Company Registration Number CN200200083 Amended Articles of Incorporation, the Board of Trustees adopted the name Lyceum de San Sebastian, Inc. Thus, effective in 2013-2014, Lyceum de San Sebastian, Inc. is the new name of the school. Glimpse about the School Director The forerunner, Ms. Chili Tita C. Cabatingan, of the rising institution, Lyceum de San Sebastian, Inc. is a simple yet dedicated, generous woman who strongly upholds the value of optimism in the things that she does. With the foregoing threats in Education today, she believes that the key to a strong foundation begins in the school. Thus, she is determined to cultivate in her heart an ever burning desire to reach out to humanity in her own distinct ways of rendering service to others. As a Compostelanhon by virtue of origin and by heart, she feels the needs of the common folks. In the pursuit of sharing her blessing to others, she begins to unveil her simple dream and layouts the road map she has to take in order to finally reach her goal. Her genuine and persisting desire to serve, has somehow motivate her to concretize her plans of labor of building hopes through the piles of stones which presupposes pave the way to inspire, enliven and strengthen the youths of the peaceful town of Compostela. From there, right at the heart of Barangay Cogon, rise a newly born school as the torch of light begins to ignite all throughout the Compostela communities. Time, effort and benevolence are her profound investments in realizing such a raging risk she has to make. With the shed of light from God, our redeemer which she holds as the strongest weapon to fight against failure and strife. As a recipient of the countless awards for fostering competence, unselfish service and well-rounded development by providing quality education to all Compostelanhons in general as well as to the common folks from the neighboring towns thereby, she wins the trust and confidence of some through friendly, complementing, determined and enthusiastic manner. The logo of Lyceum de San Sebastian, Inc. is a representation of the school’s blazing passion for learning bound with honor and prowess as depicted by one who is known through the centuries as the athleta Christi, athlete for Christ, San Sebastian. The main burning flame embodies the thrust of the school for curricular excellence and co-curricular distinction that produces scientific knowledge, physical prowess, and social abilities as represented by the three separate flames. The flames are set in yellow-gold with touches of orange to denote wisdom, high quality, and success. Integritas, Sapientia, Actio (Integrity, Wisdom, Action) The schools motto is its guiding rule of conduct. Integrity through the school’s programs and in its undertakings; Wisdom cultivated through an outstanding academic environment; and Action that brings to life all the teachings and values in the day-to-day. The motto is set in fuchsia, to denote creativity, learning, and nurturing. The olive wreath symbolizes the school’s complementary aim of co-curricular distinction carried from the tradition of ancient Greece who awarded victors, both in athletic competitions and poetic meets, with such wreaths. The olive green color signifies growth, harmony, and hope. All the elements in the logo are set against the blue color background. The color of the sky and the ocean – the heaven and earth, the divine and earthly. A continuous reminder that everything earthly comes from heaven just as the blue ocean is just a reflection of the sky. Purposely set around the logo as an incorruptible circle of light (integritas) is the color yellow, the mind and the intellect (sapientia), which is also reflective of the apparent motion of the cheerful sun (actio). MORE ON THE COLORS Blue Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity. Yellow, Gold Yellow is the color of sunshine. Its associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy. Gold evokes the feeling of prestige. The meaning of gold is illumination, wisdom, and wealth. Gold often symbolizes high quality. Orange Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation. The color orange produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance. Magenta/Fuchsia Magenta/Fuchsia stretches to divinity, love, learning, and nurturing. The color infuses the feeling of self-respect, protection, and self-awareness in self and balances emotions by being simultaneously cheering and soothing, thereby controlling over emotional and under emotional conditions. Despite the complexity of its tones and shading, magenta is a brilliant, versatile color, creating all the magic possible through artistry or otherwise. THE LIFE OF SAN SEBASTIAN, OUR PATRON SAINT San Sebastian, the Patron of Athletes, was born in Narbonne, France but was educated in Milan, Italy. In 283, he entered the army at Rome under Emperor Carinus to assist the martyrs. Because of his courage he became one of the captains of the Praetorian Guards (the elite bodyguard of a Roman Emperor). San Sebastian had prudently concealed his faith, defending the confessors and martyrs of his day without drawing attention to himself. But he was eventually detected in 286 and accused before Emperor Diocletian (Roman Emperor from 284-305), who condemned him to be shot to death with arrows. The sentence was carried out by certain archers of Mauritania, who left him for dead. Restored to health by the care of Irene, a good Christian widow, he boldly appeared before the Emperor and reproached him for his injustice against the Christians. Again sentenced by the Emperor, he was beaten to death with clubs and his body thrown into a sewer. His dead body was later removed by a pious lady called Lucina and buried in the catacombs along the Appian Way in Rome, where now stands the Basilica of San Sebastian. San Sebastian is patron saint of athletes because of his physical endurance and his energetic way of spreading and defending the Faith. His labor is crowned by the merit of a double martyrdom. Additionally, in keeping with his military rank during his lifetime, San Sebastian is also regarded as the patron saint of soldiers.
