History matters! There’re definitely some movies on Black people history I would not recommend to a dude if I feel he/she sincerely believes in that all-human-are-equal principle. Or, if it feels like that person can freak out if he/she gets in touch, by any way imaginable, with facts related to slavery. I have watched several of them – good and less good ones - and they’ve have always moved me, one way or the other, without automatically converting me into a racist (which I am positive about). I mean, aesthetically, but also, to talk about their historical approach, the movies were thought-provoking. But yesterday, after having watched “The Help” (La couleur des sentiments), written and directed for the screen by Tate Taylor and based on a Novel by Kathryn Stockett, I felt like (and that was the first time I felt such a pain) the greatly significant “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” is absolutely not an equivalent response – in terms of strength - to the intensity of misery and extremism Blacks have been exposed to during that poignant period of Humankind. (…) All these White-men-only or Negroes-no-trespassing chronics that I call ‘equipment’ for the understanding and suitable fraternization between Whites and Blacks should actually, according to me, be used as ‘didactic content’ in all former colonies (in Africa) – from nursery school to University -; let our brood and grand-kids and their grand-kids be profoundly mindful of their History but also, of all the challenges that have taken place before then, allowing us to be regarded as respectable citizens. Africans - whether they’re living on the continent or belong to the Diaspora or are just descendants of slaves - should all be proud of what our community has achieved so far, worldwide. History matters, of course, it does. Yesterday, today and tomorrow are all connected by the same pathway: time!
