History of Mahatma Gandhi: Gandhi was born into a bania (trader caste in the Hindu social order) family of Gujarat in what was British India. In purely political sense, Gandhi led India into freedom and light. But the person that he was and his philosophy to life, his views on a spectrum of issues and social conditions, have had an indelible imprint on India we live in and the world at large. Such is his larger than life stature that popular cinema too could not ignore his charm. As do the audience. Gandhi On India’s Lasting Legacy Mahatma Gandhi once said, “I believe that the civilization India evolved is not to be beaten in the world. Nothing can equal the seeds sown by our ancestors, Rome went, Greece shared the same fate; the might of the Pharaohs was broken; Japan has become Westernized; of China nothing can be said; but India is still, somehow or other, sound at the foundation. The people of Europe learn their lessons from the writings of the men of Greece or Rome, which exist no longer in their former glory. In trying to learn from them, the Europeans imagine that they will avoid the mistakes of Greece and Rome. Such is their pitiable condition. In the midst of all this India remains immovable and that is her glory. It is a charge against India that her people are so uncivilized, ignorant and stolid, that it is not possible to induce them to adopt any changes. It is a charge really against our merit. What we have tested and found true on the anvil of experience, we dare not change. Many thrust their advice upon India, and she remains steady. This is her beauty: it is the sheet-anchor of our hope.” Gandhiji On Peace I regard myself as a soldier, though a soldier of peace. Gandhi On Ahimsa Nonviolence is the first article of my faith. It is also the last article of my creed. Gandhi On Religious Conversion It is impossible for me to reconcile myself to the idea of conversion after the style that goes on in India and elsewhere today. It is an error which is perhaps the greatest impediment to the world’s progress toward peace… Why should a Christian want to convert a Hindu to Christianity? Why should he not be satisfied if the Hindu is a good or godly man? Gandhiji’s teaching On Humanity You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. Gandhi on Social Responsibility Seven social sins: politics without principles, wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, and worship without sacrifice. Gandhi On Character The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Gandhi On Religious Converts A convert’s enthusiasm for his new religion is greater than that of a person who is born in it. Happy Gandhi Jayanti Happy Birthday Bapu.....
