Hiya. I have a dread STATUS UPDATE. The good news is its as bad as it can get: the bad news is that thats pretty bad. My L ear was the one that went 2 1/2 years ago (or whenever): and it was the R one that got knocked out last week. The L side can hear up to midbass (500hz) then drops flat to -60db for the rest of the range. Ther R side just flatlines right across at -90db. If you arent familiar with the numbers, it works like this: midbass sounds to my L ear are heard by my ear about as loudly as you do. Then it drops TENFOLD for the rest of the audio band (which, being 20hZ to 20,000hz means I can hear the first 10% of the full band). With my R ear, everything across the range is 15 TIMES QUIETER than you would hear it. Theres a degradation of the quality of the tone, too: imagine hearing with yr ear full of water, and youll get this. Tomorrow, Im back to the hospital to get steriods straight into the ear, cos that has worked for some and ya have to have hope... and BTW, none of this is related to noise exposure or to chemical insults to the brain: there is NO KNOWN PHYSICAL REASON WHY ISSNHL OCCURS IN 99% OF CASES.(idiopathic sudden sensurineural hearing loss: it even has its own acrynoym!). Just in case you were worried if you also like loud music and boggieing all nite: dont. Both my ears stopped in calm, quiet conditions in which I was sober as a judge: you could easily argue THAT was the thing that did it to me! And everyone: thanks for your support. Im proud youre my friends.
