Hmmm.......the protein is CCR5 which the reporter was trying to explain. I had proposed years ago to use altered gene (CCR5-delta-32-gene) that would not produce CCR5 thus HIV could not attach and infect the immune system. But this is not the ONLY HIV entry to the immune cells. It can also go through CXCR4. So, why cant patients be injected with double gene therapies to disrupt the virus entry through CCR5 or CXCR4? Duh????!!!! As for viral resistance and HIV remission in reservoirs (like the Mississippi baby), patients can get antibiotic shots to target CD45RO for killing HIV-memory cells hiding in the system. I truly believe in combination personalized gene therapy approach. It is time to finally end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Wait......did I just answer the million $$ questions on the cure for HIV?
