Holy Crap, i just spent 4 hours on the phone on my sunday day off with psychiatrists and social workers at St. Francis hospital and PES at SF General Hospital, all of them mutual clients I have with Westside are on Psych holds, 15 of them across two hospitals. Why? I looked back at their records all was good last week, NONE of them got their medications on Thursday or Friday, Westside staff are leaving in droves, clients feel abandoned, no medications I just wanted to beat my head against my desk. Some of these clients had been able to stay out of the hospital for the past year since becoming stabilized and now this is a huge setback (in their minds). Some will be released in the morning the 5150 expires and they have stabilized, but 11 of them are being extended to 5250 (28 days) minimum because they have not stabilized on medications. So much for a week off of work and classes. My clients come first. We went over every one of their medications, each one of their treatment plans as well as the major question of whether or not they could care for themselves or can they be a harm to themselves or others if released. Its a question I cannot answer until i see them all tomorrow morning, first appointment at St. Francis 8 am then over to General at noon. I called Westside On call and they told me Raquel you know how it is with these clients sometimes all we can do is put band-aids on their problems, my response was pissed these are not band-aids when you dont provide them the medications they are prescribed these clients needs long-term solutions not stop gap measures, I dont practice cookbook therapy or half-assed case-management. Then I called the head psychiatrist at home on his cell, he went ballistic that all these clients were not given their medications. He told me straight up Raquel i am trying and going to address this first thing in the morning and call all the hospitals right now to make sure they get the right dosages. All the clients told them the same thing apparently, dont bother trying to call Westisde, my therapist is on leave or left and they didnt have my medications on Thursday or Friday, call Raquel she is always available. (lol i have no social life this week haha)
