Holy Rosary will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! And you are invited to two exciting events to celebrate this special milestone. Founded in 1954, Holy Rosary School opened its doors in September with four classrooms and a cafeteria. The school had six grades and 170 students that were taught by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky. The school grew rapidly under the direction of Fr. J. William Wiley, first pastor of Holy Rosary Parish and Sr. Sheila Ann Madden, S.C.N., first principal of Holy Rosary School. Four additional classrooms were added to the original building in 1956. Four more were added in 1958, and in 1960, the third addition was made to the school consisting of a separate building of eight classrooms. In 1967, a new gymnasium was dedicated. Construction of a new two story building began with a five year plan for the church and school in 1987. In Spring 1991, the new facility was opened. It consisted of twenty-six classrooms, a library media center, computer laboratory, Science lab, music room, art room, gymnasium, a Girl Scout and a Boy Scout room, cafeteria, guidance office, a resource room, and administrative offices. In 2010 Holy Rosary completed its latest addition consisting of new church offices, a meeting room and a second gymnasium. If you were a student at Holy Rosary School back in the early years, or know of someone who was, please let them know they are invited to two of the events to celebrate this anniversary. The first celebration will be a 60th Anniversary Party which will be held on Sat. September 13, beginning with Mass at 4 PM. This will be a time for food, fun, fellowship and making wonderful memories of the by gone days when the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth were our teachers, Sister Sheila Ann was our principal, when there was a convent where Spaulding Green currently is, and when Father Wiley was the pastor. The second celebration is the Feast Day Celebration in honor of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary on Sun. Oct. 5, beginning at 4 PM. Former priests, associate priests, deacons, teachers and students are invited to this event. Former Holy Rosary School students from those early years, please contact Jan Courtney at jcourtney777@gmail or Martha Lovett at marchar57@gmail.
