Home / National Jonathan sends condolences to terror-stricken Borno By: Augustine Osayande 2015-01-13 08:54 Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan has conveyed his sympathies and condolences to the people of Borno State following the continuous killing of civilians by the Boko Haram insurgents. Minister of State of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, conveyed the message on behalf of Jonathan. Wakil said the federal government was resolute more than ever to tame the insurgency which had become a problem to the nation. The minister said the Presidency was deeply worried by the spate of killings including the Baga killings reported to have claimed thousands of lives. He added that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was most saddened by the Boko Haram insurgency, which claimed many lives in the North East. We were all in pain going by the unrestrained savagery unleashed on our people by the sect. We are in sorrow going by the international dimension involved in the insurgency, Mr President conveyed his condolences,” said Wakil. Wakil also disclosed that the Goodluck Jonathan administration was reviewing and enhancing its counter terrorism plan with a view to tame the insurgency. He said the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards should not foreclose the pains of the people, adding that federal agencies are under direct instruction of Mr. President to provide food, water and bedding materials for the internally displaced persons. “Politicians should know we are in a war situation. Our kith and kin are under stress and pain, PVC is important but I must say the welfare of our people is very paramount in our heart as PDP leaders. We will do our very best to bring this insurgency to an end,” Wakil pledged. He assured Borno people that Federal Government would collaborate with PDP stakeholders as a way to fast track rehabilitation of the displaced and militarily and politically put an end to the insurgency. “We are pursuing a plan that will create close rapport between the state and the Federal Government. Our people will feel the presence of both levels of government so that real development will occur and by Allah’s grace, peace and development will return to our state,” the minister said. Thousands have died from the terror onslaught and scores more displaced.
