Hope this is okay to post. Would just like to share my horses progress. This is Scarlet (registered as Oakbury Rosalie) shes a 4 year old turning 5 on the 28th of March, welsh section d. I bought her on the 10th November 2012. She had been past about a bit as a youngster probably because of her fiery attitude. She was sold from her breeder as a 6 month old foal with her half sister to be broken for the cart, however this didnt go ahead and was left in a field until she was two and a half. She was in a field with a bigger horse who she had to fight for her food with as the owner would throw a bucket of pony cubes in every couple of days, through this my horse is very very protective over her food and will not allow another horse near her when eating and can be VERY temperamental with other horses when out, she was also not handled for this period of time. She was then sold on to the lady I bought her off who tried to handle her, but however Scarlet was a very difficult horse and would push you to your very limits. She was rewarded for negative behaviour which causes problems for me now. And is scared/temperamental with males due to a man taking her into a field and lacing her one with a crop every time she got excitable. Due to this its very hard for her to trust anyone. She was not correctly broken and I have done everything again with her but she will now allow me to take her out on her own and will trust me in what Im asking this has taken over a year to properly take effect. I have had so many people tell me Im stupid and that scarlet is a dangerous horse, telling me to sell her on and get something safer, due to an incident that happened when I first got her. Because of her taking a lot of time to trust you, when I first bought her it was winter and she was unrugged so I went to put her stable rug on, while I did her belly straps she decided to cow kick me which she ended up kicking me in the head. This made me lose all of my confidence. And now just over a year on this is everything weve been through. And now shes improved so much. One proud owner and so glad I believed in her and my gut feeling and stuck with her!!!
