Hope to clear up some confusion here........ALL ANTLERED DEER - TopicsExpress

Hope to clear up some confusion here........ALL ANTLERED DEER (typically bucks) must be recorded as such!! Any deer with HARD BONE visible above the hairline......IS AN ANTLERED DEER!! Only the Button Buck shown in Photo #1 can be recorded as an ANTLERLESS DEER (no bone visible); ALL others shown here (Photos #2, #3 & #4) must be recorded as ANTLERED DEER!!! BLUF, NONE of the deer shown in the attached photos should be harvested on Fort Benning. However, hunters who harvest a deer similar to the ones shown in Photos #1, #2, & #3 will not be cited or lose their hunting privileges even though protecting these animals from harvest is the first priority of QDM on Fort Benning!! This policy is ONLY in place to provide some leeway for mistakes, NOT to encourage harvest of immature animals! Any hunter who harvests a Spike Buck with beams greater than 3 inches, like the one shown in Photo #4, will be cited and suspended for 30 days! A hunter who harvests any other antlered deer which does not meet the QDM antler restriction requirements (4 points, 1 or longer, on at least one side) will be cited and lose their privilege to hunt for a period of 1 year! The Fort Benning specific QDM policies referenced above are completely separate from legal recording requirements and DO NOT relieve a hunter of their requirement to properly record harvest of ANTLERED DEER!!
