Households that use electricity to heat water need to save costs on geyser use. In these households, water heating for laundry, cooking, dishwashing and bathing generally amounts to between 30% and 50% of a household’s electricity usage. It is important to make sure the geyser is set at 60°C and be sure to switch it off before you leave for work. You only need to turn it back on again when you go to be bed. Shower instead of taking a bath and you will use less hot water. One can also consider installing the Solar Water Heater under the Eskom Rebate system – where Eskom subsidises the cost of purchase and installation.
