How I plan to give back :) In the U.S. 397,122 children are living without permanent families in the foster care system. 101,666 of these children are eligible for adoption, but nearly 32% of these children will wait over three years in foster care before being adopted. Source: AFCARS Report, No. 20 Around the world, there are an estimated 153 million orphans who have lost one parent. There are 17,900,000 orphans who have lost both parents and are living in orphanages or on the streets and lack the care and attention required for healthy development. These children are at risk for disease, malnutrition, and death. Source: Childinfo (UNICEF, 2011) In 1989 I was put up for adoption through Hope Cottage Adoption Agency in Dallas. They are the oldest nonprofit, non faith based adoption agency in Dallas and has been serving North Texas since 1918. At 8 weeks I met my new parents who have been the best parents a child could ask for. My family today has filled my heart with love and affection since the day I went home with them. I have always felt like this is where I was meant to be... Being adopted is one of the most precious facts about me. I am grateful everyday for the men and women out there who helped find me the family I have today and helped guide my biological mother through any questions and heartache she was going through during this extremely tough decision. Adoption is a beautiful thing, and because it has impacted my life in so many amazing ways I have chosen to give 10% of my photography earnings each month to Hope Cottage in Dallas, TX and starting next year I plan on sponsoring an SOS child in need.
