How about the American Music Awards last night?! I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised with Jennifer Lopez’s tribute to the great Celia Cruz. You know, my eye doctor is originally from Cuba, and when I went in to get my eyes examined, we talked about my musical endeavors, and I also mentioned that I love Cuban greats like Celia Cruz and Polo Montañez. Of course, we conducted the entire conversation in Spanish only. I also composed an original Spanish-language song, “Amaré Otra Vez,” which will be included on my sophomore album, “Verity.” The song will be released as a single in conjunction with “Cinco de Mayo” as a gift to my Latin followers. And I would be remiss if I did not take note of the spectacular performance by the one and only Christina Aguilera. Her vocal was very reserved, very understated, but with all of those aspects, she created a vibe that was immaculately stunning with a touch a reverent class. She made the show for me. I am very fond of power ballads like the one Christina performed with A Great Big World, and, as I proceed in recording my third album, I am striving not to have to live up to the pressure of the standard of my previous original ballads like “Open Road” and “Why Can’t I Live in Your Heart.” For “Why Can’t I Live in Your Heart,” I was heavily inspired by great compositions that Walter Afanasieff produced for Mariah Carey. “Love Takes Time,” which was one of eighteen domestic chart-toppers for Carey, is one of my favorite songs of all time. Afanasieff’s production and Carey’s vocals and lyrical content moved me—so much to the point where I was inspired to compose a song chronicling my own amorous affairs. The final product, “Why Can’t I Live in Your Heart,” was an original power ballad that I wrote and produced that was also featured on my debut album, “The Art of Céran.” I hope you guys enjoy it!!!
