How astounding is this article, and it is the second article in less than a week on the subject of how we prepare young drivers. People have this misconception that driving proficiency is determined by how many hours you have driven. Simple fact is that this has no determining factor in their ability to drive and more importantly, drive safely. What this article does illustrate is what we are achieving is undermining all the good work done with schools education programs, Emotional and attitudinal factors that influence our driving for years to come and generally lowering the standard to the lowest common denominator. Then we wonder why they crash cars. Quite frankly, this would not be allowed in any other form of education, qualification or industry practice. I guess that is why the academics call it the default. How sad is that. they know what is wrong, why it is wrong, yet all they do is introduce legislative band aids, that means they all have jobs for next year to research, write and legislate to make our lives that little more restrictive and costly every year.
