How did you all fall in love with our 4 handed cousins? For me I can be very precise. On my 8th birthday in 1987 my parents took me to twycross zoo for the first time. I already liked animals but was mesmerised by the primates, especially the great apes. We became members and for several years visited at least once a week. Twycross was a very different place and we became good friends with many of the keepers and animals. My family were lucky to have very close contact and had many magical moments behind the scenes. This is my mum bottle feeding a young Sumatran orang. As I grew older my feelings changed about some of ways things were done at Twycross and for quite a while stopped visiting zoos altogether. The affection I felt for my fellow apes has never left me though and will last as long as I do.
