How do I cut weight for a fight without feeling lethargic and - TopicsExpress

How do I cut weight for a fight without feeling lethargic and weak? First of all, long term fitness must be your overall goal. You may just pre-fight for a few months, however, your baseline fitness and favorable body composition should be pretty close to your peak. This means you are working like a professional not only 3 months out, but throughout the on and off seasons. When you change your mindset from going all out for the last months before a fight to a being close all the time you will roll in and cruise the last weeks instead of feeling like a zombie. A lot of upcoming fighters who email me their questions struggle with committing to a diet which keeps them lean and close to fight weight. They prep for their fight, then the fight is called off and they get upset, binge and regain all the weight because they think there wont be another fight so doesnt matter. Guess what? Usually another fight comes up and suddenly the fighter who ate and got fat needs to lose tons of weight in 2 weeks time. Why does he have to accept and take the opportunity under these circumstances? Because there are MANY hungry fighters out there wholl do anything to get a shot. If youre fat and cannot make weight you wont be able to climb the ranks. In short, you need to be ready for battle in case theres another battle... Many fighters go from a lousy diet to a crash diet in one weeks time. What happens? Your body goes into panic mode. You will be dead tired. Dizzy. Foggy. You will lose motivation. You will start getting scared for fighting because you feel WEAK. This is not the way you mentally prep.... Instead you should start out losing fat far out so you allow your body to get efficient and understand what youre asking from it. Most times, fighters listen to other fighters whove been dieting on lettuce and chicken. You do not have to go to this extreme if you plan ahead. Many times all you need to do to promote fat loss is tweaking a bit here and there. You might not see how, but thats why you have a nutrition coach who KNOW what to do. You must eat to support your training. Going on a starvation diet will not help you. You must be meticulous if youre one of those who struggle with losing anything at all. Many fighters Ive helped refuse to be anal until I come with them to the kitchen and LITERALLY show them what their serving size is and HOW they need to measure it. It might be ignorance or just lack of awareness. I have 100% respect for fighters training skills, but you have to trust ME I wouldnt ask of YOU to do this and that and notify me unless I really had to know. When working with fighters, I demand 100% reporting and keeping me in the loop. Ive had clients who I KNOW are not following their diet and yet they dont tell me. How do I know? Well, they are hiding! Eating rice n krispies! LOL yes it happens, but thats when you FREAKING CALL ME so I can talk you out of the munchies. As I work with a new client whos up for making weight, I analyze him/her. I ask tons of questions and I keep on asking until I get the answers I need. Yes, I am supervising and I wish I was the guard of your fridge 24/7, but thats not really doable, you couldnt afford me. The last week before a fight, if youve done your work you dont need to do much more than simply stop drinking water and cut salt for 1-2 days. Fat wont disappear over 1 day, but water will. Again, preparation and commitment is key.
