How does the government shut down affect immigration? Read below!! 1) Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is still operating 2) USCIS Benefits continue because they are mostly funded by filing fees paid by applicants. 3) U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) is Not Operating – which means no LCAs and no processing of LABOR/Perm applications. 4) U.S. Department of State: Temporarily Operational U.S. Department of State remains largely operational for a limited time (including consular operations and the fee-funded visa issuance activities abroad). At that time, the DOS stated that it would have needed to discontinue non-emergency visa and passport services. 5) ICE only providing very limited services In the event of a government shutdown, it is expected that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would not conduct I-9 audits and would not be able to initiate removal proceedings. The security-related functions and care of those who are detained would need to continue. #immigration #governmentshutdown #neerabahlandassociates #budget #congress #cbp #uscis #usdol #usdos #ice
