How many of you are animal lovers? I’m guessing most of you have either a dog or cat. Back in 2007, when we first got little Roo Bear, I knew nil about dog food. Of course, I had seen various commercials on TV for Iams, Eukanuba, Kibbles n’ Bits, etc. One would conclude that these brands are good for our pets. WRONG! I immediately took to the Internet to start my investigation. What I found was shocking! It is estimated that over 90% of pet food brands are filled with corn and by-products, but there are a few brands I recommend. First let’s take a look at the first ingredients for Kibbles ‘n Bits: Corn, soybean meal, beef and bone meal, ground wheat flour, animal fat, corn syrup, wheatmiddlings, water sufficient for processing, animal digest Scary right? Now let’s compare my #1 choice, Orijen Regional Red: Boneless Angus beef, boneless wild boar, boneless lamb, beef liver, boneless pork, pork liver, whole herring, lamb liver, beef meal, lamb meal, herring meal, salmon meal, Pollock meal, beef tripe, bison, lamb fat, whole egg, red lentils, chickpeas, green peas, yellow peas, green lentils, herring oil, pea fibre, yams, sun-cured alfalfa, pumpkin, butternut squash, spinach greens, carrots, Red Delicious apples, Bartlett pears, cranberries, blueberries, kelp, licorice root, angelica root, fenugreek, marigold flowers, sweet fennel, peppermint leaf, chamomile, dandelion, summer savory, rosemary, Enterococcus faecium. The differences speak for themselves. Other brands I like to include: -Wellness Core -Innova EVO -Merricks Grain Free (also has the best-canned food) Let’s say you are feeding your dog a food similar to Kibbles n’ Bits or Iams. Are they healthy? Happy? If yes, then good job for being a responsible pet parent. To see how your dog food stacks up check out: dogfoodadvisor/ bit.ly/1bn9YzD
