How many people think about those who pledged their lives, fortunes, and honors for the chance to create a country of freedom? Do you thing that those were just the hollow words of rich merchants, landowners, jurists and such? Five signers of the Declaration of Independence were captured by British troops. Imprisoned, tortured, and died. Nine fought as American soldiers, and either died from wounds or deprivation. Eleven watched there homes and wealth devastated by the British. Rags and poverty was the outcome. Imagine, all these people actually committing themselves to the words they declared. Do you have the guts to do the same? 'Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!', Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775. What would be your choice?
