How much of a waste of energy and time did the new U2 iTunes album - TopicsExpress

How much of a waste of energy and time did the new U2 iTunes album cost the world. Approx 119,000 tons of burned coal + approx 8 years for people to remove it from their libraries assuming it takes 1 minute per person to erase x 80% of the 500,000,000 unwilling recipients. Deets: A music album is in the region of 100 MBytes, which uses up about 590 Wh to download, this includes the energy your computer uses + servers and cooling x 500,000,000 free downloads worldwide = 250,000,000 kWh Coal power plants obtain approx 2.3 kWh/kg of burned coal. Which comes out to about 108,000,000 kg of burned coal for all the downloading of all 500,000,000 albums, about 119,000 tons of burned coal. Additionally there is the time wasted erasing the unwanted album from your iTunes library, if you know how to do it then it might take you less than 1 minute. Assuming 400,000,000 people opt to delete the album, it would waste over 7 years given that there are 525,949 minutes in 1 year. Thanks Apple and U2, you smug bastards.
