How often do we hear the question, “Why would a good and loving God allow terrible things to happen to His people?” In Isaiah 55:8-9, we are reminded of the answer: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” In the midst of tragedy or pain, we are simply unable to comprehend the workings of God’s wisdom and ways. Though we may ruminate and deliberate, trying to reason through God’s actions, it would probably be far more productive to remember that, regardless of human actions or how things might appear in our simple understanding, the Lord’s word “shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” In the end, God’s got it covered.
