How often have we seen a couple where one of them feeds the other cake, then smashes it into their face, and ending with a loving embrace and kiss? Its a wedding tradition. But I was shocked to see it unfold on TV today on ESPN. I was watching NFL draft coverage and they showed Michael Sam in this scenario. Sam who could be the first openly gay athlete to play in the NFL was selected in the seventh round by St. Louis Rams, the 249th pick. My shock had little to do with a man kissing another man. My shock had to do with the fact that ESPN showed a clip of a man kissing another man. Its incredible how much the world has changed during my lifetime. I wouldnt be surprised if some people lodged protests or shared outrageous homophobic opinions on social media. But besides shock, I felt a deep sense of awe at such an unabashed expression of love. Wow!
