Huge day for trails in Pomfret! With the help of our sous chef - TopicsExpress

Huge day for trails in Pomfret! With the help of our sous chef chain sawyers, we restored the New England Forestry trail. You can now park at the Pomfret Rec field and ride to the Airline, take a right up the Airline a ways, cut left through the New England Forestry trail (which is pretty well marked and much cleaner thanks to amazing chain sawing), and come out on Jericho Road. Then turn right. At the first telephone poll on the left, go up the Barrett Ridge Town of Pomfret marked trail which is also red blazed thanks to Penny and Nancy Austin, and ride all the way to Valentine Road. It could be a good 6-8 miles. Terrific accomplishment thanks to Penny and David and super strong help. They made it possible, handling chain saws like they were buttering bread. Thank you, hugely, again. In other trail news, the loop by the pond off Friedly Road is also clear thanks to our super workers. Its a beautiful loop on great footing. AND while we were on a roll, I went behind Putnam Savings and cleaned up the trail from the Airline to the Putnam Savings driveway. Its a good place to cross 44 and ride down to Wolf Den Park. Now we need everybody to get out and enjoy the trails. The Rec Park to Valentine Road (plus a nifty loop on Clapp Road) represents months of work and could be our biggest success. You wont believe how beautiful it is! The more who use them the easier to maintain and better established they become. Pomfret is becoming a trail mecca!
