The typhoon peaked in intensity as the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane, but has since weakened. The forecast for Wipha from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center takes the center of Wipha close to eastern Japan. The center is forecast to move near or just east of Tokyo, the capital, Wednesday morning local time (late Tuesday U.S. time).
