I AM PISSED!!! I have a story to share regarding SmarTone and their Data Roaming Day Plan. Ive subscribed to their data roaming service for several years now (over different phones) and have never had any issues; any time I need mobile data when Im travelling, I just switch on the data roaming function on my phone and it worked great. I havent used this function in I cant remember how long, but its good to have, especially in cases of emergency when Im travelling. So why am I writing this? I just received my Smartone bill and was surprised to see I was charged for 7 non-consecutive days of data roaming in China!!! HKD 966 !!! Given Ive been in Shenzhen for a year, this doesnt explain why this is happening now after all this time. I know for a fact that I have not turned on the data roaming function on my phone while in Shenzhen, and in fact I have no need as I have 100M WiFi at home. I spoke to Smartones CS and their record shows data usage for each of these data roaming periods at around 6kb .. 6kb and I get charged for HKD138 each time!!! I told them I had not turned on data roaming in a long time and definitely not in the last 6 months ... guess what the reply was ... maybe I installed an app that did this. So nothing really constructive to resolve this issue ... what, should I delete all my apps???? I told them that this is really worrisome as I will not know when Ill be hit with these charges again ... Finally the CS said they would look into waiving one or two days fees ... but ultimately why am I being charged in the first place???? What Im worried about is if this happens again and again, using Smartone will become very expensive!! Should I just switch to another provider? Go to the Consumer Council to file a complaint? Anyone else run into this? Maybe share this post to see if anyone else had run into this problem?
